5 Ways to Refresh Your Home for the New Year

As you take down your Christmas decorations at the beginning of the year you may be wondering “what’s next for my home?” The beginning of the year is often filled with ideas, energy, and motivation; you should take advantage of this time to refresh your home and set the tone for 2023.

Set your Home goals for 2023

The first way to refresh your home is to determine what aspects of your home you want to change. Examine your home and figure out what is working and what isn’t. Is the furniture still as comfortable as it used to be? Is the artwork still aligned with the atmosphere you want to create in your home? Has your personal style changed, and does your décor reflect this change? If you’ve answered ‘no’ to any of these questions, now is the time to refresh your home. Your home should be the place where you feel most comfortable, and you cannot feel comfortable in a space that you are not in tune with.

Update Your Bedroom

An integral part of refreshing your home is updating your bedroom. We spend so much time in our bedroom that any home revamp must include this space. Get rid of your old, worn out, overly patterned bedsheets and invest in new linens. Afterall, there is hardly a better feeling than jumping into a cosy bed after a long day. To make an even bigger impact, change your headboard. Headboards are a statement piece in any bedroom and changing yours can create a whole new atmosphere in your bedroom.

Get rid of 2022’s Clutter

January really is the best time to get rid of the previous year’s clutter. Starting a new year in a clean, clutter free space helps to free your mind, gives you greater control over your life and promotes productivity. With these benefits in mind, now is the time to sort through the unused items that have been laying around your home. If you have duplicates, get rid of one. Broken widgets and empty bottles that no longer serve their purpose? Time for the trash. Do you have pieces that no longer bring you the same joy they once did? Throw them out! Day by day remove the unnecessary items and work towards refreshing your space.

Experiment with Colour

The most common way to refresh any space is to change its colour. A fresh coat of paint with a high gloss ratio is sure to bring new life into any room. However, if you do not want to commit to painting your entire room, paint the back panel of your bookshelf instead. Bookshelves are one of the largest pieces of furniture in a home that are usually overlooked during the refreshing process. As bookshelves take up so much room, this is a sure-fire way to refresh your space. If you are someone who does not want to use paint at all, try rearranging your books, grouping them based on colour. By doing this, your bookshelf is not only functional, but it now acts as another piece of art in your home.

Change the Fragrances in Your Home

Finally, change the fragrances in your home. Rather than having one or two staple scents for your entire home, utilize specific scents for each room. Different scents will work to freshen up your rooms and as our memory is closely linked to our sense of smell, the scents in your home have a big impact on how you feel about your home. Carefully consider what scents you want yourself and your guests to take in and begin curating your home to suit. When thinking of scents, candles often come to mind but there are many other options for scents such as diffusers and room sprays that work just as well.

There is no better time to refresh your home than now. Give these tips a try today.
